The Campeonato Mineiro de Surf came back in full force in 2023. There have already been no less than six heats, with four more to come, in addition to the festivals themselves. And yes, now in the plural! Alongside the already traditional 19th Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surf, which returns to Belo Horizonte after a four-year hiatus, we will have the 1st Segundo Campeonato Mineiro de Surf, which will take place in São Paulo. As if that weren't enough, we had the second online edition and have now released the second compilation of the festival, this time featuring bands that participated in the various incarnations of the festival this year, as well as bands that have been and will be part of this history.

The Campeonato Mineiro de Surf

Created in the year 2000, the Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surf is the longest-running surf music festival in the world and the most important in Latin America. More than just a music festival, it's an opportunity for the exchange of material and the strengthening of friendships between bands and fans of the genre. In the 18 editions held to date, more than 100 Brazilian bands, as well as bands from the United States, Croatia, Spain, and Uruguay, have ridden the waves in Belo Horizonte and solidified the festival's name as one of the most important in the Brazilian alternative circuit.

After the online celebrations of the 20 years of the Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surf, which took place in the midst of the pandemic and earned us a Gremmy Award in the category "Best Example of Using the Virus to your Advantage," it's time for the in-person version to return. And we're back with both feet on the board!

Starting at the end of August, the Campeonato Mineiro de Surf – 2023 heats will take place. From north to south of the country, there will be events dedicated to Surf Music. On September 7th, we had a new online edition, with performances by Brazilian bands of the genre. And all of this culminates with two editions of the Festival: in Belo Horizonte, the 19th Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surf takes place on November 3rd and 4th. Nine bands will ride the waves on the stages of Matriz, which hosts this edition of the festival. And in São Paulo, we introduce the festival's younger brother, the 1st Segundo Campeonato Mineiro de Surf, which takes place for the first time on October 27th and 28th at Red Star Studios, bringing together nine bands from six different states, covering all five regions of Brazil! The festival is called "Segundo" (Second) because "Primeiro" (First) is the one in BH, but it's "1º" (1st) because it's its first edition, got it?

The Campeonato Mineiro de Surf is organized by Reverb Brasil, in partnership with A Obra Produções and VNN Studio. The festival's art is created by the master Cláudio Villa, bassist for Sangue de Androide, Reverendo Frankenstein, and Run Devil Run in his spare time, and a creator of sensational art in his occupied hours. The heats are organized by the bands themselves with their local contacts and with the support of the Campeonato Mineiro de Surf.

O Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe voltou em 2023 com força total. Já aconteceram nada menos que seis baterias, e ainda temos mais quatro por vir, além dos festivais propriamente ditos. E, sim, agora no plural! Além do já tradicional 19º Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe, que volta a acontecer em BH depois de um hiato de quatro anos, teremos o 1º Segundo Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe, que acontecerá em São Paulo. Como se não bastasse, tivemos a segunda edição online e lançamos agora a segunda coletânea do festival, desta vez com bandas que participaram das várias encarnações do festival deste ano, além de bandas que fizeram e farão parte desta história.

O Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe

Criado no ano 2000, o Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe é o mais longevo festival de surf music do mundo e o mais importante da América Latina. Mais do que um festival de música, é uma oportunidade para o intercâmbio de material e solidificação das amizades entre bandas e fãs do estilo. Nas 18 edições realizadas até hoje, mais de 100 bandas brasileiras e dos Estados Unidos, Croácia, Espanha e Uruguai pegaram onda em BH e consolidaram o nome do festival como um dos mais importantes do circuito alternativo brasileiro.

Depois das comemorações online dos 20 anos do Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe, que aconteceram no meio da pandemia e nos renderam um Gremmy Award na categoria “Best Example of Using the Virus to your Advantage”, chegou a hora da versão presencial voltar. E voltamos com os dois pés na prancha!

A partir do final de agosto, acontecem as Baterias do Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe – 2023. De norte a sul do país teremos eventos dedicados à Surf Music. No dia 7 de setembro tivemos uma nova edição online, com apresentações de bandas brasileiras do estilo. E tudo isso culmina com duas edições do Festival: em Belo Horizonte, o 19º Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe acontece nos dias 3 e 4 de novembro. Serão nove bandas pegando onda nos palcos do Matriz, que abriga esta edição do festival. E, em São Paulo, apresentamos o irmão mais novo do festival, o 1º Segundo Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe, que acontece pela primeira vez nos dias 27 e 28 de outubro, no Red Star Studios, e reúne nove bandas de seis estados diferentes, cobrindo as 5 regiões do Brasil! O festival chama-se “Segundo” porque “Primeiro” é o de BH, mas é “1º” porque é sua primeira edição, sacou?

O Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe é uma realização da Reverb Brasil, em parceria com A Obra Produções e o VNN Studio. A arte do festival fica por conta do mestre Cláudio Villa, baixista da Sangue de Androide, Reverendo Frankenstein e Run Devil Run nas horas vagas, e fazedor de artes sensacionais nas horas ocupadas. As baterias acontecem por iniciativa das próprias bandas com seus contatos locais e com o apoio do Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe.
